Patiala – An Educational Hub:
Today, Patiala is an important seat of learning with a full-fledged University, a Government Medical College, a Dental College, an Ayurvedic College and an Engineering College. Patiala has been cultural and academic center of northern India. Since Indian independence in 1947, Patiala has emerged as a major educational center in state of Punjab having Punjabi University-the largest university in the state, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law- first national law school of north region established under Punjab Government Act of 2006, Govt. Bikram College of Commerce-one of the premier Commerce colleges in Northern India, Government College Of Physical Education, Govt. College for Women, Government Medical College, Patiala. Netaji Subhash National Institute of Sports(NIS), Patiala is a sports hub of North India.
It is well connected by Rail, Road and has a Flying club too. Patiala now happens to be one of the nine cities selected for up gradation as a counter-magnet to Delhi in the National Capital Region (NCR). It is also strategically important due to Military Cantonment and bordering the state of Haryana.
